Block board uses solid wood strips as its core rather than thin veneer plies, giving it excellent screw-holding strength for load-bearing furniture like bookshelves and long shutters. HDHMR (High Density High Moisture Resistant) board takes a different route — a dense, uniform fibre core that machines cleanly for CNC-cut, routed, and profiled furniture designs where plywood's layered edge would show. Both sit in the "structural core" category rather than the "visible finish" category — they're typically covered in veneer or laminate.
